Hope Restored

Updated: May 21, 2025

January is always a hectic month in Kenya as it marks the beginning of the school term.

This period involves preparations for the term, and many children end up missing

school due to delayed reopening or the inability of parents to afford school fees and other necessities. It is a disheartening time as some teenagers do not complete their school term, with young girls facing early pregnancies that disrupt their education and lead to early marriages. Many become single mothers, adding to the community's challenges. Young boys often turn to drugs, which jeopardizes their promising futures, or join negative influences, leading them to engage in activities like robbery. This unfortunate reality is something we encounter as a family and ministry while visiting remote areas around Kitale in Trans-Nzoia County. This is why we have initiated efforts to encourage teenagers to return to school. We started with Zebulon, and with the support of brother Bryant, we managed to get Zebulon back to school. From there, the head teacher of St Emmanuel Primary School, located in the slums of Forkland area in Namanjalala Location, requested our help for a family struggling to support their four children in school. These children often miss school due to a lack of meals at home. Mr. Francis, the teacher, asked for our assistance, and we used the remaining funds from Zebulon’s budget to buy Jacob, a Grade Seven student at St Emmanuel Primary School, a new school uniform. Despite his potential, Jacob's grades are declining due to lack of support, so we provided him with a new uniform.

Our prayer request is to support Jacob and his three siblings by ensuring they have meals at school and providing each of the remaining siblings with a school uniform. They need 20 tins of maize and 10 tins of beans for their school lunches, costing $50, with an additional $20 for the cook. The cost for their school uniforms and shoes is $80, bringing the total needed to $150. With this amount, Jacob and his siblings can remain in school. Please pray with us that God will provide for these children, helping them achieve their dreams, just as we did for Zebulon.
